Ever completely space out on something? Like you knew something important was coming up but weren't entirely sure what it was, and then, suddenly, Mother's Day was upon you and you hadn't even thought to send your mom a card? Yeah, me neither. But suppose you had a friend who did. What kind of advice would you give them? Flowers are easily the all-time best short-notice gift, but the trick is to get something uncommon. For Mothers Day flowers should express the sentiment of "Thanks Mom!." So, unless your mother's favorite flowers are red roses, that kind of trite romantic gesture is inappropriate. Pansies, daisies, carnations, violets, honeysuckles, lilies, daffodils, and other similar, simple but elegant flowers are good Mothers Day flowers. Look for flower arrangements that offer a mix of several complementary colors and types of flowers. If you don't have as much a sense of these things as you'd like, look for a bouquet that seems to be all one piece, without being just one type of flower. But where do you get the flowers on short notice? If you live in the same town as your mother, you can go pick them up in person. But what if you live across the country, or half-way around the world? Order flowers online. Seriously. Reliable flower delivery has come a long way in the age of the internet. After you have located a flower shop online, they can facilitate the transaction. Before you know it, the chosen blooms will be plucked, packaged and delivered on her desk or doorstep. However, remember that orders placed the week of a major "flower" holiday such as Mother's Day or February 14th carry a considerably larger fee. Think of it as the trade off for waiting until the last moment to do this shopping. You can now help out a friend when he or she finds Mother's Day is close at hand and needs a quick but thoughtful gift. You can advise them that the gift of flowers is a winner. Or, perhaps you need to send that special bouquet for Mother's Day yourself, you will know just what to do.
